Thomas Jefferson a Vegetarian?

Not exactly. He did, however, eat a diet mostly of vegetables. But I dare say if Mr. Jefferson were alive today, he would be a vegetarian in the modern sense. Factory farming is truly against Jefferson's vision for America, which was the pastoral ideal (a virtuous RURAL society!)

Thomas Jefferson:
"I have lived temperately, eating little animal food, and that not as an aliment, so much as a condiment for the vegetables which constitute my principal diet." (TJ to Dr. Vine Utley, 21 March 1819)
